Does this work for someone? It's marked as "COMPLETE" but it does not work for us: https://github.com/expo/expo/issues/14078

This feature was added in SDK 42, which is now available for beta! https://blog.expo.io/expo-sdk-42-beta-is-now-available-e505770389e7

Charlie Cruzan Brent Vatne Hey folks, Do we support notifications with banners too? Also would be grateful if possibly someone can guide me in debugging expo notifications being received on real device with huge delay of 15-20 minutes. Expo snacks work fine when tested but with our expo app there's a huge delay. Any guidance would be greatly helpful. We are on SDK 42.

Is there a workaround that I can use? any workaround? anything?

I believe this post is the same as https://expo.canny.io/feature-requests/p/silent-push-notifications

Any update ?

Any updates on this? Handling notifications in the background (app closed/phone sleeping) is not supported but WIP on expos website. No trace of the progress though.

We would love to use expo with the managed workflow in an upcoming project. The app should be able to pull data from a server after receiving a "silent notification" with the information that some data has changed (also in the background). This is due to a requirement by the client that the actual data must not touch any cloud service (unfortunately). As I understood this is not possible until this feature was implemented right? Or is there any workaround where it would still be possible to use the managed workflow here? Thanks!

You can implement this by checking when to actually send a push notification or an in-app alert in your end tho, I'm currently doing it don't really need a native thing.

Burak Tokak: Background ( Silent ) notifications do not need user permissions to execute and work even if the app is close. Can you actually do that ?
